「瀬戸国際セラミック＆ガラスアート交流プログラム」は、国外の優れた陶芸家とガラス作家を招聘する“アーティスト・イン・レジデンス（芸術家の滞在制作）プログラム”です。
瀬戸の長い陶芸の歴史とガラスの原材料(珪砂)の産地である特質に、世界で活躍する作家が加わることで、市民や瀬戸市および周辺地域で活動する作家等との交流を深め、陶芸・ガラス芸術の新たな展開が生まれること、そして芸術的感性と国際感覚豊かな地域づくりを目指しています。
招聘作家はPart1とPart2の2期に来日し、瀬戸市内に居住しながら瀬戸市新世紀工芸館で制作を行います。
滞在中はスライドレクチャー、公開制作など各種イベントを開催し、作家の作品世界や制作姿勢に触れることができます。

Seto International Ceramic and Glass Art Exchange Program is an artist in residence program for international artists leading in the ceramics and glass field. With its long history in ceramics and its production of raw materials for glass, Seto boasts the perfect location for these art forms and by inviting international artists to join with local creators a new dimension of ceramics and glass making can be discovered whilst investing creativity and international diversity in community development. Guest artists are invited to stay on two occasions in Seto and develop new works at the Seto Ceramics and Glass Art Center. During their stay they also have the opportunity to make presentations and open studio events providing key insights into their world of creation.

地域の特徴

1000年以上の歴史を誇る「せともの」で有名な陶都。陶土とともにガラス原料となる珪砂の産地でもあります。市内には多くの陶芸工房、近隣には陶芸やガラス工芸が学べる教育機関があります。「せと陶祖まつり」や「せともの祭」等様々な行事が行われます。

陶祖である加藤四郎左衛門景正（かとうしろうざえもんかげまさ）が生きたとされる時代から800年を記念し、その偉業を広く紹介する『陶祖800年祭記念事業』を平成26年度までの3年間にかけて展開しています。陶祖・藤四郎をしのぶ祭礼「せと陶祖まつり」が開催されます。陶祖供養をはじめ「御物奉献行列(ぎょぶつほうけんぎょうれつ)」、「せともの廉売市」など、瀬戸市内で様々な行事が行われます。
「せとなつ」では、涼を楽しむ「岩屋堂天然プール」や、市内各所で親子で楽しめるイベントが開催されます。
毎年開催される「せともの祭」は2日間で数十万人の方が訪れる大イベント。瀬戸川沿い廉売市会場では、お店の人との値段交渉も楽しみのひとつ。「せと・あとりえ参道」は、地元で活躍する陶磁器など様々なジャンルのクリエーターが深川神社参道に集結します。
「陶のまち・瀬戸のお雛めぐり」陶磁器を中心に展示した巨大ひな壇“ひなミッド”(瀬戸蔵)をはじめ、市内各ギャラリーにて創作雛の展示・販売が行われます。

Local Charm

Said to be the originator of Seto ware, the life and work of Shirozaemonkagemasa Kato is celebrated for his contribution to ceramics. In recent years there have also been a series of special events to mark 800 years since the birth of Seto porcelain. To commemorate the father of Seto ware special ceremonies are carried out, including a memorial service, dedication procession and bargain sale market.
As part of the “Seto Summer” events families can enjoy the “Iwayado Natural Pool” and other refreshing activities.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people gather over two days for the “Seto Ceramics Festival” a huge bargain sale along the Seto riverside where shoppers can haggle over prices directly with the sellers, whilst the “Seto Atelier Promenade” brings local creators of various genres together along the approach to the Fukagawa Shrine.
A festival of dolls places on display intricately crafted ceramic dolls on impressive multi layered pyramids in shopping centers such as Setogura, with other exhibitions and sales of specially made dolls around the town.

Places of Interest

Seto is the famed city of Seto ware, a ceramics craft with over 1000 year of history in the region. The area is not only the source of rich clay but also the fine sand needed for glass production. The city is filled with ceramic studios and many facilities fostering education in glass and ceramic making. Even the town’s festivals are dedicated to its ceramics with “Seto Ware Founding Festival” and the “Seto Ceramics Festival” amongst these.
