樽前は北海道苫小牧市の西の端。プリンみたいな溶岩ドームをちょこんとのせた姿がかわいい樽前山の麓に拡がる約7,800haに約650人が暮らす、広くて小さな街です。30人くらいの子どもが通うステキな学校、市立樽前小学校があって、私たちは、そのすぐそばで活動しています。
市内の若手アーティストがジャンルを越えて集い、「樽前arty」というアートイベント開催してきました。作家主体で始めた活動ですが、地域におけるアートの役割や社会とアーティストの関係性などを内外に問いながら回を重ね、より地域の声を取り入れた活動を実現できるよう、2013年に、アーティストとコーディネーターが手を組んだ任意団体樽前arty+として生まれ変わりました。今後も、樽前山麓の自然とアーティストの感性を力に地域の文化芸術振興と交流人口の増加に貢献したいと思います。

Tarumae is located on the western edge of Tomakomai City in Hokkaido Prefecture. A small town of approximately 650 people spreads over a 7,800ha area at the foot of Mt.Tarumae, an amusingly shaped lava-domed mountain resembling a crème caramel. Approximately 30 children attend the reputable Tarumae Elementary School, and we are carrying out our activities nearby. For the past few years we have brought together young artists of various genres from around the city through the art event “Tarumae arty”. Since its initiation by a group of artists this project has continued to evolve in its questioning around the role of art in the community and the relationship between artist and society, leading artists and coordinators to join hands in forming the NPO Tarumae arty Plus in 2014, with the aim of encouraging a greater inclusion of the voice of the community. We hope that the nature of the Tarumae mountains and the sensibility of artists will come to contribute to the revitalization of arts and culture in the community and an increase in the number of those engaging in cultural exchange.
