3億年という永い年月によって形作られた国定公園「秋吉台」の麓、その豊かな自然のなかに、国内外の芸術家の表現創造活動の拠点として、1998年8月に「秋吉台国際芸術村」はオープンしました。
この「芸術村」は、世界に開かれた「芸術文化の創造と発信」の場として、音楽、美術、ダンス、演劇など幅広い芸術文化活動に対応できる滞在型芸術文化施設で、「アーティスト・イン・レジデンス（滞在型創作活動）*注釈挿入」やセミナー・ワークショップ事業のほか、国内外の関係団体との連携プログラムや地域に密着したプログラム、さらには、滞在者と地域との交流事業などを展開します。また、創作・練習・発表など芸術文化活動の場として県民の皆様に開放しています。
この「芸術村」に国内外から芸術家が集い、創造的な活動を広げることで、地域から世界に向けて情報発信を行っていきたいと思います。

Akiyoshidai International Art Village was founded in August 1998 as a base for the expression and creative activity of domestic and international artists. It is found within rich nature at the base of Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park, shaped over 300 million long years. This “art village” was opened to the world as a place of “creation and transmission of arts and culture” where a wide range of activities (such as music, art, dance, and theater) could be accommodated in a residential art and culture facility. In addition to the Artist in Residence program, seminars, and workshops, there are also cooperative programs with relevant domestic and international organizations, as well as programs closely involved with the local community with exchange opportunities with local residents. Furthermore, we are opened to all residents as a place of artistic and cultural activity, ranging from creation to practice to presentation. In this “art village”, we would like to send forth information from the community to the world through the broadening of creative activities of artists who have gathered from home and abroad.
