1999年より日本最北端のAIR事業を開始する老舗団体。海外からのアーティストやクリエーターを数多く招き、札幌独特の環境と連携したプロジェクトを展開しています。
2013年4月より新事務所に移転しました。現在は、決まったスタジオスペースや展示スペースはなく、レジデントの状況によってその都度、関係機関と連携をとっています。

A long-established organization initiated in 1999 as Japan’s northernmost Artist-In-Residence program. Inviting a large number of artists and creators from overseas, we are developing projects that forge links with the unique environment offered by Sapporo. The S-AIR office moved to new premises in April 2013,. Currently, we do not have a fixed studio and exhibition space, working instead to create tailor-made residencies fitting the artists’ proposals in collaboration with related organizations.

アイヌ民族が暮らしていた土地に、明治政府による開拓史の設置に伴い多くの人々が移住。1922年8月1日に誕生した札幌市は若いながらも国内５番目となる190万人の大都市に成長。気候が寒帯に属するため、個性的な自然環境、文化、生活様式を持っています。

Places of Interest

S-AIR is situated on land formerly inhabited by the Ainu, to which a large number of people moved following the establishment of the Hokkaido Development Commission by the Meiji Government. Sapporo City was founded on August 1, 1922 and, while still young, it has grown to become the fifth largest big city in Japan with a population of 1.9 million. Since its climate belongs to the arctic zone, it has a unique natural environment, culture, and way of life.
