TAMAYA TAMASHIMAは岡山県倉敷市玉島の清心町商店街にあります。2017年春より、元洋品店の空き店舗を使って、アートセンターとして運営しています。今後はレジデンス以外にインキュベーションオフィスとしての使用も視野にいれつつ、このエリアにおける「場」の役割を地域の人達と一緒に考えながら開いていく予定です。
TAMAYA TAMASHIMA is located on Seishin-cho Shopping Street in Kurashiki city, Okayama. We opened in the spring of 2017 as an art center in a former clothes shop. With an eye toward widening its functions to include incubation office, we will continually consider roles that our place can play in this area with local people and provide an open platform.

地域の特徴
- 近隣に点在する酒蔵で蔵開きがあり、限定酒の販売もあります。
- すももや桃、葡萄、マスカット等の産地が近隣にあるので、果物が安く購入できます。車で約15分くらいの所には沙美海岸があり、海水浴を楽しめます。
- 良寛和尚が修行をしたことで知られる円通寺が徒歩圏内にあり、ハイキングや紅葉を楽しめます。
- 瀬戸内でとれる魚介類が種類豊富です。近くの浅口市 寄島町には牡蠣の養殖場があり、小売りもしています。
Local Charm
- Sake breweries dotting in the neighborhood are open to public and some sell limited editions of sake.
- Low-priced fruits are available from the nearby areas known for the production of Japanese plums, grapes, muscats and so on. Sami beach, a popular swimming spot, is 15 minutes away by car.
- Entsuji Temple, where Ryokan, a well-loved Buddhist monk trained, is walking-distance away. It is a great place for hiking and enjoying colorful autumn leaves.
- You can enjoy a variety of seafood from the Seto Inland Sea. There are oyster farms in the nearby Yorishima-cho, Asakuchi city where visitors can buy fresh oysters.
Places of Interest
The Tamashima area is a port town where had been prosperous from the 17th to the early 20th centuries due to calls of Kitamae-bune cargo ships. As a heartland of former Tamashima city before it merged with Kurashiki city, with services and facilities necessary for living compactly located, it is convenient to live and makes your stay fruitful not only in terms of creative activities. It provides good access to the neighborhood areas including the Kurashiki Bikan Historical District, the Mizushima industrial complex and Kojima, the birthplace of jeans in Japan, and is well-connected to destinations for short trips including Onomichi city (Hiroshima) and Takamatsu city (Kagawa).活動スペース

TAMAYA TAMASHIMA is run by two staff, a man in his 50′s and a woman in her 40′s. The resident is supposed to live with us. The residence has air-conditioning but it is not working well due to the age of the building. PLEASE NOTE that we do not have good English conversation skills. We will use a translation app as needed for communication. We will welcome you if you do not mind it. *Please ask for more details.
